I'm 5'11", and I Swear By These 5 Boot Styles

I'm 5'11", and I Swear By These 5 Boot Styles

At 5’11”, I’m what most people would consider tall. I’m so tall, in fact, that I’m regularly stopped and asked what basketball team I play for. Not if, but what—as if being tall somehow means I’m automatically in the WNBA. Regardless, I love my height. I love standing out in a crowd. I’m thrilled I can wear maxi dresses all summer long without worrying about tripping. I actually enjoy being similar in height to my 6’2″ boyfriend. No awkward couples photos here, thank you very much.

That are, however, certain considerations that must be made when you’re 5’8″+. For example, I tend to veer away from miniskirts, as what might be mini on others is practically invisible on me. Likewise, I prefer a lower heel like a mule over a stiletto. I like meeting my boyfriend eye-to-eye, but I’m not trying to pat him on the head … Read the rest

Kate Middleton Wore the Shoe Trend That's Coming for Your Stilettos

Kate Middleton Wore the Shoe Trend That's Coming for Your Stilettos

We don’t know Kate Middleton’s podiatrist (if she even has one), but we’d venture to guess that somewhere in the greater London area, they’re breathing a major sigh of relief right now. The Duchess of Cambridge has long been unwavering in her preference of footwear, building up quite the collection of skinny stilettos over the years. She even stayed committed to her high heels throughout her pregnancy, further establishing her love for the shoes. (It’s been said that your feet become more sensitive while expecting.)

But today, while visiting the Henry Fawcett Children’s Centre in Kennington, she opted for a pair of block-heel pumps that, while no less chic, are supposed to be far better for your feet in the long haul. When we asked podiatrist Miguel Cunha about the best and worst heel styles, he echoed that he much prefers the thickness of block heels, “as they will … Read the rest

A Podiatrist, an Instagram Expert, and Mattel Respond to the Barbie Feet Craze

A Podiatrist, an Instagram Expert, and Mattel Respond to the Barbie Feet Craze

Instagram trends can get weird, but before deeming them totally loco, we like to take our time to investigate the hype. Up on the chopping block today is the Instagram craze we like to call “Barbie feet,” which models, celebrities, and fashion girls have taken an obsessive liking to. The idea behind this trend is to pose up on your toes to elongate your legs and flex your muscles a little bit. It appears as though you’re wearing high heels sans the shoes. This positioning of the leg is nearly identical to the propped-up feet of Barbie. Typically, this pose is accompanied by a swimsuit or summery ‘fit since those are the occasions where no shoes reside.

The hype is now confirmed (just scroll down to see all the Instagram proof), so to further investigate, we reached out to three experts in different fields to weigh in—a podiatrist, … Read the rest

Amal Clooney's Hairstylist Told Us All of His Favorite Hair Trends for Summer

Amal Clooney's Hairstylist Told Us All of His Favorite Hair Trends for Summer

Fact one: Amal Clooney has amazing hair. Fact two: We want to know all of her secrets, or rather, all the amazing hair secrets of her go-to mane man, celebrity hairstylist Miguel Perez. As a Hair Rituel by Sisley ambassador and a sought-after expert with A-list clientele like Clooney, Salma Hayek, Suki Waterhouse, Lucy Liu, and others, it’s safe to say he knows a thing or two about hair—and the most important hair trends the industry is currently prioritizing.

Typically, our summer hair aesthetic is way laxer than other times of the year. We embrace effortless low-maintenance looks and (to our best ability) banish our blow dryer and styling tools until the fall and winter months. (Summer is the perfect time for hair rehab, folks.) That doesn’t mean we want to sacrifice our hair’s style or integrity though, and we still want to know what summer hair products, … Read the rest

I Never Wear Dresses to Work, But I Would 100% Try These

I Never Wear Dresses to Work, But I Would 100% Try These

That’s a lie. I did wear a dress to work once recently, during my I Tried It Week challenge, but it was so unusual and unfamiliar to me, that it actually was what drew my attention to the fact that I never really do it otherwise. I wish I had a reason for you, but I don’t even know why I don’t wear dresses to work. Perhaps it’s because I’m so comfortable in jeans (even in the summer) that I don’t really feel the need, or maybe it’s because I don’t have the right ones. Whatever the reason, my one dress-to-work experience this year really made me feel like I should be doing it more often, hence today’s roundup. From $35 to $300 and up, I found 24 dresses that I’d totally ditch my daily denim look for. To see what made the cut and, of course, do some … Read the rest

I'm a Fashion Editor—These Are the Fall Beauty Products I'm Buying on Amazon

I'm a Fashion Editor—These Are the Fall Beauty Products I'm Buying on Amazon

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: What did we ever do without Amazon? I buy a lot of boring stuff on Amazon (lightbulbs and printer ink, anyone?), but one of the most non-boring categories I shop is beauty. As you know, Amazon is chock-full of luxury, drugstore, and obscure beauty products. Your old favorites are probably easy to find, and the inventory is also organized in such a way that it’s easy to discover new favorites. (Be sure to check out the best sellers section.)

Lately, my beauty shopping focus has been on summer pedicure colors, natural self-tanners, and beachy hair wave sprays, but my focus is slowly but surely shifting to slightly more polished beauty products that will help to transition my look into fall. I’m talking hair-smoothing creams, tinted lip balms, wallet-friendly brow pencils, and moisturizing skincare. Keep scrolling to shop the 21 … Read the rest

3 Celebrity Stylists on the Worst Carry-On Packing Mistakes

3 Celebrity Stylists on the Worst Carry-On Packing Mistakes

There are two kinds of people in the world—those who solely travel with carry-ons and those who never do. Personally, I’m more of a grab the largest suitcase you own no matter how long the trip is kind of a gal myself, but after giving it some thought, I realized I was only packing that way because I was not educated enough in the art of packing a carry-on suitcase. Every time I tried to limit myself to one carry-on, I failed. It wasn’t just what I was packing, it was how I was packing it, and a bunch of other crucial errors that were pointed out to me by a few of my favorite celebrity stylists.

If there’s anyone in this world who knows the ins and outs of travel, it’s celebrities and their stylists. Most of the time, these dynamic duos travel across the country for a one-day … Read the rest

Hands Down, These Are the 15 Best Ankle Boots for Wide Feet

Hands Down, These Are the 15 Best Ankle Boots for Wide Feet

This is weird, but my mom swears that when I was born, the first thought she had about me was that I had fat feet. That is not an exaggeration, and she now feels guilty that her first thought didn’t drift to the gift of life that was my birth. To this day, my wide feet have remained a curse that has kept me from wearing strappy sandals and thin wedges—both of which can’t contain my bricks (my mother’s word, not mine).

Consequently, ankle boots have become my best friend. I’m just as likely to wear them in winter with boyfriend jeans as I am in summer with a flirty summer dress. That said, there are ankle boots better suited to my *unique* feet (my word, not my mother’s). Boots with a pointed toe are likely to cut off my circulation, while combat boots are a wide foot’s … Read the rest

11 Trends We're Saying Goodbye to This Fall

11 Trends We're Saying Goodbye to This Fall

A new season means a host of new trends for the taking. And with fall just around the corner, we’re beyond excited to get ahead of the new styles we’ll be sporting once the leaves turn brown. That means it’s time to say goodbye to certain passé trends to make room for some fresh, new ones. (Also, a handy philosophy for preventing an overwhelmingly jam-packed wardrobe.) From the cowboy-boot trend we exhausted this year to tie-dye tops that are causing us major sartorial fatigue, scroll below as we break down the trends we’re saying sayonara to this autumn—and, of course, the ones we’re saying hello to instead.

Cowboy boots have saturated our feeds for the past couple years, and we think it’s now time to step into chic lace-up boots instead. Okay, so they may require a little more effort to actually put on, but they were a huge … Read the rest
