J.Lo Might've Just Worn Her Most Controversial Shoes Yet

J.Lo Might've Just Worn Her Most Controversial Shoes Yet

Jennifer Lopez probably tries more controversial shoe trends in a month than most of us do in a lifetime. (Remember this Ariana Grande–approved style and these dramatic Christian Louboutin boots?) It’s quite helpful that a driver is waiting to pick her up curbside every time she steps out the door. That said, we’re not sure how she took even 10 steps in the ankle boots she just wore in NYC, as they’re a whopping six inches tall with a thick inch-and-quarter platform. I consider anything four inches and up to be quite high, so I can’t even fathom spending the day in heels as high as J.Lo’s. But let’s not forget J.Lo even dances on slippery stages in heels, so I’d say you could call her a professional.

Lopez’s ankle boots are by Alaïa and touch on this past winter’s hiker boot trend. You could say that the tread … Read the rest

The Wildly Popular Jeans No One Can Keep in Stock Right Now

The Wildly Popular Jeans No One Can Keep in Stock Right Now

If you read Who What Wear regularly, you’re probably familiar with Agolde jeans. Specifically Agolde Pinch Waist Jeans. I first reported on them last summer, upon their initial release, and since then, the popularity of the jeans has continued to rise. Our readers buy them in droves, Agolde keeps releasing them in new washes, and I’ve noticed that retailers have trouble keeping them in stock. (Fun fact: The brand just released a stretch version, which you can shop below.) Not only that, our editors can’t stop wearing them—you’ll see the proof of that below.

Thanks to the higher-than-high rise, perfect length, classic straight leg, and an under-$200 price point, these versatile jeans are highly likely to be the most popular Agolde jeans. That said, Agolde has several other styles that I also see a lot and that also seem to fly out of stock: ’90s Fit Jeans (another Who … Read the rest

The Important History Behind Some of Asia's Traditional Formalwear

The Important History Behind Some of Asia's Traditional Formalwear

This Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, we’re taking extra time to reflect on the region’s influence and cultural significance. Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders—AAPIs for short—include anyone descending from the Asian continent and the Pacific islands existing within Melanesia, Micronesia, and Polynesia. That’s a lot of cultures wrapped up in such a tiny descriptor, and notably, many of these nations have proven to be powerhouses in affecting the tides of the fashion industry. The region has birthed an army of brilliant designers, been responsible for the pop-culture phenomenon behind the real crazy rich Asians (I guess we now know who’s buying couture off the rack), and has had its long history act as the source material for many of the clothing trends we see today.

In honor of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, we’re taking the question of where our clothes really come from to heart. More than … Read the rest

I Support the Controversial Denim Trend Chrissy Teigen Just Wore in NYC

I Support the Controversial Denim Trend Chrissy Teigen Just Wore in NYC

If you like mom jeans, you’re probably going to approve of the somewhat controversial denim trend Chrissy Teigen just wore around NYC. If you’re a skinny-jean devotee, I’ll understand if you stop reading here. I’m talking about pleated jeans, and with the return of every ’80s and ’90s trend known to man over the past few years, it was inevitable that pleats would surface again. I don’t know about you, but after donating most of my cropped flares recently, I’m eager to add new denim styles to my wardrobe.

It’s easy to assume that pleated jeans will be unflattering and frumpy, but I’ve found that today’s styles are slimmer and cooler (like this J Brand pair that the friendly UPS man is delivering to me today). Teigen even chose a pair with major distressing, so they’re sure to not be confused with a pair that actually came from three … Read the rest

Keeping It Positive: Challenges of Plus-Size Shopping in a Straight-Size World

Keeping It Positive: Challenges of Plus-Size Shopping in a Straight-Size World

I was born large (like, over 11 pounds, large) and have been a big guy ever since. I was also born to shop. It’s in my blood: Both my grandfather and my father were retailers, so I didn’t stand a chance. I got my start in the fashion industry as a college intern at a glossy magazine, and, after school, began my career in fashion public relations. No matter which company I’ve worked for during my 15 years as a publicist, there’s been one constant: I am always the biggest person in the room.

While it has been encouraging to see the strides that the women’s body positivity movement has made over the last few years (if you’re not following people like Katie Sturino, Hunter McGrady, and Nicolette Mason on Instagram, you’re missing some fierce activism and even fiercer fashion), and I’m thrilled by women’s clothing brands that Read the rest

The Only Prints That Matter This Summer

The Only Prints That Matter This Summer

As someone who doesn’t veer into the world of prints, patterns, or even colors very often, when I do, I like to make it count. After all, if I’m going to buy into something outside my general wheelhouse of jeans and white T-shirts, it better be worth it. If you’re reading this and nodding because you’re exactly like me, or even if you’re the complete opposite but still care to know what the season’s biggest print trends are, I advise you to keep reading.

Today I’ve rounded up the only five print trends that matter this summer, complete with styling suggestions and, of course, shopping picks—because why else would one come to Who What Wear? From the stripe of the animal print world to the highly specific florals you should be paying attention to right now, just keep scrolling to see what made the cut.

Every Summer Swim Trend You Can Buy on Amazon Right Now

Every Summer Swim Trend You Can Buy on Amazon Right Now

There is a good side and a bad side to everything, including Amazon. In fact, we’d go as far as to say that it’s kind of a double-edged sword. On one hand, it carries almost everything you could ever want or need in one place; it’s truly a one-stop shop. On the other hand, there are so many categories, brands, and products that it can be a little overwhelming—if not outright daunting—to shop for a specific item. That’s where we come in. From the Amazon items our editors would buy with $100 to our favorite fashion picks, we sift through thousands of items to find the most stylish of the bunch. This time, we focused our Amazon sleuthing efforts on swimwear specifically. After all, Memorial Day weekend has already come and gone, and everyone knows that’s the unofficial start of summer. From the buzziest colors of the season to insider-approved

The 4 Comfortable Shoe Styles That Look Best With Skinny Jeans

The 4 Comfortable Shoe Styles That Look Best With Skinny Jeans

It’s no secret that we love a good pair of skinny jeans. (The key word here is good.) If you find the right pair, they feel stretchy and comfortable like a second skin. They hug your shape, creating a silhouette that’s at once casual and professional, depending on how you choose to style them.

Seeing as it’s almost June, we’re brushing up on the best ways to wear our skinny jeans in summer and shopping for complementary tops, accessories, and shoes that will enhance our active summertime lifestyles. That’s right: We’re shopping for only the most comfortable items out there—those that will not just allow us but also encourage us to take a long stroll along the boardwalk or head out for a casual jaunt around town (with zero chafing, rubbing, or blistering involved). Today, we’re focusing on the latter category: footwear. Keep scrolling to see four comfortable shoe styles … Read the rest

22 New Beauty Products Our Editors Were Obsessed With in May

22 New Beauty Products Our Editors Were Obsessed With in May

By now, you’ve probably surmised that we receive, test-drive, and review a lot of beauty products here at Who What Wear HQ. From nail polish and makeup to hair and skincare, we’re eyebrow-deep in all things new, exciting, and, yes, wish list–worthy. That said, due to the number of products we come in contact with on a daily basis, we’ve also transformed into the nitpickiest beauty consumers. Within seconds, we can tell if a new hair oil is too heavy and greasy, and we’re quick to ignore a serum or foundation that yields disappointing results (no matter how many hype emails it has sitting in our inboxes—sorry!).

The good news? We’re far more often impressed than unimpressed after trying out a new product, and usually, we simply can’t wait to spread the word to all of our fellow beauty junkies (aka you). Therefore, we’ve decided gushing over our latest … Read the rest
