Jennifer Aniston Proved That Summer's Most Controversial Heel Trend Is Chic

Jennifer Aniston Proved That Summer's Most Controversial Heel Trend Is Chic

Much to the world’s delight, Jennifer Aniston has been out and about a lot lately, promoting her new Netflix film, Murder Mystery. As you may know, Aniston isn’t one to stray from her signature California-chic look, which usually involves the color black or other muted hues. Accordingly, for a press appearance earlier this week, Aniston wore a Loewe maxi dress (trend alert!) in her signature black hue with summer’s most controversial heel trend: wedges.

“Grandma” trends have been on the rise this summer, with celebrities eagerly donning things like tweed, crochet, and the aforementioned wedges (which Sienna Miller and Selena Gomez very recently wore). We Who What Wear editors also weighed in on the trend this season. The majority of wedge heels on the market have typically been espadrilles, but this season, more and more sleek pairs, like Aniston’s strappy black leather wedges, have been cropping up. Jessica Biel Wore Controversial Ankle Boots With Black Skinny Jeans

Jessica Biel Wore Controversial Ankle Boots With Black Skinny Jeans

A piece of advice: If you’re ever in need of celebrity skinny-jean outfit inspiration, look no further than Jessica Biel. Denim trends may come and go, but for the most part, Biel sticks to the classic style. And, as one does, she typically wears them with ankle boots of all different shapes and styles.

While out in rainy Los Angeles this week, Biel went for a pair of ankle boots that made us zoom in for a closer look, as they were the It boots of 2013: Isabel Marant Caleen Studded Boots. We recall them being sold out everywhere and on the feet of many celebs and bloggers. It’s not often we see a pair of It boots from years ago on a celebrity, but with the boots’ subtle Western theme, which is a major trend this season, we can certainly see why she’s reviving them. To add … Read the rest

Anine Bing on Her Career Highs (and How She Celebrates With Natural Diamonds)

Timeless style with a rock ’n’ roll edge: It’s the L.A.-girl way, thanks in large part to the efforts of a certain multihyphenate creative and her eponymous label. Just glance at any given West Coast street style image and you’re likely to be greeted with one of Anine Bing’s signature leather moto jackets, studded boots, stunning diamond jewelry, delicate lace bralettes, and cozy but forward graphic tees. The globetrotting Danish model turned entrepreneur (and mom of two!) launched her line in 2012 shortly after moving to L.A., and her career has been in the fast lane ever since.

She’s somehow still got more she wants to accomplish (more on that below), but like most Angelenos, she also knows the value of slowing down once in a while and really appreciating the moments that have brought her to where she is today. Which made her the perfect person to pose some Read the rest

I Live in Sunny L.A. and Hate Wearing Sunscreen—Except for These 15

I Live in Sunny L.A. and Hate Wearing Sunscreen—Except for These 15

We’ll be honest—the topic of sunscreen has gotten a bit complicated (or should we say heated?) in the past few years. Previously, the major concern was merely whether or not we were wearing the stuff, but now, what’s in or not in our go-to formula seems to be the center of the sunscreen debate. Essentially, you have two options when it comes to SPF: a chemical formula or a physical formula, which are also oftentimes referred to as mineral sunscreens.

The main difference between the two is that chemical options contain avobenzone, octinoxate, and oxybenzone as their key sun-protecting ingredients, while physical/mineral options feature titanium dioxide and/or zinc oxide. Of course, there’s also the issue of how they work differently to deflect against sun damage. According to Piedmont Healthcare, chemical sunscreens absorb the UV rays that hit our skin, converting the rays into heat, which is then released … Read the rest

How to Master Kendall Jenner's No-Makeup Makeup, According to Her Makeup Artist

How to Master Kendall Jenner's No-Makeup Makeup, According to Her Makeup Artist

‘Tis the season for sunblock, salt spray, fresh cuts, and, oh yeah, the most minimal of makeup looks. Of course, you’re plenty welcome to wear whatever makeup aesthetic floats your boat any time of the year, but for us, our goal is to achieve the ultimate no-makeup makeup look à la It girls like Kendall Jenner, Emily Ratajkowski, Chrissy Teigen, Hailey Bieber, the Hadid sisters.

That said, even though achieving a minimal makeup look sounds simple enough (and looks barely detectable on IG), any artist behind said looks will tell you they require heftier strategy, work, and products than you might think. Thus, we tapped one of the best makeup celebrity makeup artists in the business, Mary Phillips, to give us the 411 on the signature no-makeup makeup look she personally gifts all the gorgeous peeps listed above with. And yes, … Read the rest

30 Swimsuits That Weirdly Look Even Better as Summer Tops

30 Swimsuits That Weirdly Look Even Better as Summer Tops

Have you ever secretly wanted to wear your swimsuit as a top IRL, not just to the beach or pool? Same, which is why I’m writing this story. It wasn’t too long ago now that our editor in chief, Kat Collings, flaunted a swim top as a “real” top underneath a blazer during fashion week, and to be honest, I never fully recovered. The styling was spot-on, it looked cool and fresh, and it was an easy way to give something that once had only one function, multiple.

Now, not every swimsuit or bikini top will transition as easily into your ready-to-wear wardrobe as others, so today, I’m here to break down the best swim top styles to wear as summer tops. Triangle bikinis and anything with a prominent barely there effect might feel a bit off among your regular clothes, but the six swim top styles ahead … Read the rest

They're Here: The Holy Grail of Zara Basics

They're Here: The Holy Grail of Zara Basics

We all head to Zara for different reasons. Some of us are in search of the latest trends at affordable price points, some of us are looking for accessible workwear pieces, and others are just trying to grab a few cheap basics. If you’ve indulged in reading Who What Wear before, you know we are overly supportive of all three kinds of Zara shoppers, but today, we’re here to speak to the basic-seeking Zara consumers of the world (and hopefully persuade all the rest).

When you really think about it, if there is one category at Zara you can always count on, it’s the basics market as a whole. This market, luckily, encompasses many different articles of clothing from T-shirts to LBDs. Ahead, we took the time to sift through all of the basics at the retailer and managed to narrow them down to 14 categories. These 14 categories, … Read the rest

I Live in NYC But Want to Live in L.A.—These Are the 5 Trends I'll Ditch First

I Live in NYC But Want to Live in L.A.—These Are the 5 Trends I'll Ditch First

There comes a pivotal moment most transplant New Yorkers hit a decade into living in the city. They have to decide between one of two things: 1) They’ve become a New York–for-lifer, or 2) it’s time to get the hell out of Dodge. I’ve recently found myself falling into the latter camp. I still love New York, but I love the idea of a backyard; boots that aren’t marred by snow, slush, and salt; and a quiet commute from the comfort of my own car even more. Returning to L.A. has quickly risen to the top of my to-do list.

With dreams of year-round temperate weather, I’ve already let my mind wander toward a new, less frenzied me, both in spirit and in fashion. L.A. is its own unique style hub, and I’ve already started curating a list of trends I’ll be waving goodbye to in my rearview mirror. … Read the rest

The Jewelry Trends You Shouldn't Spend More Than $75 On

The Jewelry Trends You Shouldn't Spend More Than $75 On

We spend a lot of time talking about jewelry trends here at Who What Wear. After all, shedding light on the summer jewelry trends fashion girls are deprioritizing and reporting on the outdated jewelry trends that are officially out is pretty much part of a fashion editor’s job description. Although jewelry typically comes with a steep price tag (and we’re not opposed to splurging on a piece of everyday jewelry that we’ll never take off), we’re also of the mindset that buying into the latest trends shouldn’t cost you.

Curious as to which trending jewelry items we shouldn’t spend more than $75 on, we consulted an expert on the matter: Philomène Tellaroli, a concept designer of accessories for the Paris Atelier at & Other Stories. And she did not disappoint. From the hot hair accessory seemingly every It girl has been wearing in 2019 to the necklace trend that’s taking … Read the rest

Whether I’m grabbing my morning iced latte, going for alfresco brunch on the weekends, taking a walk down Melrose Place on my lunch break, or indulging in guac and margaritas after work, there are certain fashion items (often from Reformation) that I see women wearing almost every day in Los Angeles, no matter where my route takes me. And yes, while it may seem like in today’s world, we’re all drinking the same Instagram Kool-Aid, there are certainly some nuances—e.g., white dresses and oversize sunglasses—that seem so innately Angeleno that you’d be hard-pressed not to notice these pieces on fashion girls everywhere from Venice to Silver Lake. Keep scrolling for a peek at the seven items we’re seeing all over L.A. right now.

Call it shirred, smocked, or crinkly, the elasticized gathered fabric is all over our favorite dresses and tops this season—and Angelenos have been quick to take on … Read the rest
