This Is the Difference Between a French and American Makeup Routine

This Is the Difference Between a French and American Makeup Routine

When it comes to the lives, routines, and product collections of makeup artists, we’re intrigued—or, to be more accurate, entranced. After all, these are the artistic professionals who spend their days and nights prepping all of the industry’s most fabulous names for fashion shows, editorial shoots, red carpets, film sets, ad campaigns, and so, so much more. Not only do they have access to the world’s most beautiful faces any given day, but they also have access to the world’s most covetable skincare and makeup products. A safe assumption? They know what’s what within the beauty product realm and only use the crème de la crème formulas, colors, and brands. Not only on their A-list clients, mind you, but on their own faces as well.

In honor of our own recent July 4 celebrations and today being Bastille Day—the French National Day and the anniversary of the Storming … Read the rest

8 Classic Pieces You Should Never Toss

13 White Summer Dresses That I Promise Aren't See-Through

13 White Summer Dresses That I Promise Aren't See-Through

White dresses are to summer what black boots are to winter: necessary, easy, and cute. In theory, walking into a store and snatching up every white dress in sight seems as easy as pie, but in reality, a lot of white dresses prove to be completely see-through. Some of you might not care at all if said dress is sheer. Personally, though, I have found that each time I’ve purchased a see-through white dress due to how stylish it is, I never wear it because I’m too nervous.

Yes, there are solutions for such situations, including slips, getting the dress lined, or even wearing nude shapewear, but sometimes you want to skip all the fuss and put on your pretty white summer dress without thinking twice. If that’s you, we’ve got 13 non-see-through white dresses that are calling your name. How do we know? Because at one point, they … Read the rest

16 Cult French Pharmacy Products You Can Order on Amazon

16 Cult French Pharmacy Products You Can Order on Amazon

Years ago when I lived in Paris, I would regularly stop into the pharmacies strung along the street corners of each arrondissement. Yes, I loved searching for vintage clothing in the many incredible stores I stumbled upon, but I think I spent just as much time exploring the French drugstores. I’ve always been someone who is constantly experimenting with beauty products and skincare treatments, so finding aisles and aisles of French beauty products I had never encountered before was nothing short of exhilarating.

I watched to see which items stylish Parisians were adding to their carts and soon learned exactly which French pharmacy products were must-haves. Over the time I lived there, I brought bags of products from popular brands like Bioderma, Nuxe, and Avène back to my apartment in the Marais and turned my bathroom into testing grounds for all of my latest discoveries. When I left Paris, … Read the rest

7 Items Literally Every NYC Girl Is Wearing Right Now

New York City is already considered to be one of the world’s most stylish cities, but I think it’s important to point out that its inhabitants are also especially masterful at seasonal dressing. After all, they (actually we) have to figure out how to tackle beyond-freezing temperatures in the winter, high heat and humidity in the summer, and even transitional dressing for those fleeting moments in spring and fall when the weather is just perfect—all while walking around a lot.

That’s why, when I see that my fellow New Yorkers are all wearing different versions of the same thing (or, in today’s case, things), I feel compelled to share them with all our readers because I know they must not only be cool in fashion but functional too. So what pieces are all over the streets of NYC this summer? Just keep scrolling to see and, … Read the rest

I Haven't Worn a Bra in Years—Here's What I Wear Instead

I Haven't Worn a Bra in Years—Here's What I Wear Instead

When I turned 13 (and finally started to go through puberty), all I wanted was to start wearing a bra. By the time I was 14, all I wanted was to stop wearing a bra. I had quickly learned what most of us already know—that bras are typically uncomfortable, rigid, and cut into your under-boob area. The most relieving part of my day was when I finally got home and could peel off my bra. So I soon decided to stop wearing bras altogether.

That brought challenges, however, as I wasn’t yet entirely comfortable with the idea of going braless. So I decided to dip my toes in the water by rotating through several bra alternatives—all of which were certainly more comfortable than my go-to underwire bra. If you, too, want to forgo bras without totally abandoning the support and shape they offer, keep scrolling to … Read the rest

When it comes to weddings, there are so many details to plan (think multiple wedding dresses) that it’s no wonder the term “Bridezilla” even exists. I can confidently say I’ll happily turn into one as my wedding day approaches, as I think brides-to-be are entitled to as many rants, tears, and breakdowns as we like. You know what they say: If you can’t handle me at my worst, you don’t deserve me at my best.

It definitely doesn’t hurt to cut out as many stressors as possible during the planning process, however. Meet the Designer Behind the Brand You'll See on Every Cool Fashion Insider

Between emails that land in my inbox, photos from my Instagram feed that earn screenshots, and market previews I’m attending, I’m constantly introduced to new fashion brands. But it’s only every so often a new label comes around that I can’t wait to get my hands on and immediately want to share with everyone. Right now, it’s Refine, a brand founded by Net-a-Porter alum Anina Heé that is focused on creating timeless pieces you’ll have in your closet for years to come.

Instead of designing trend-driven items, Heé sought out to craft pieces centered on high-quality craftsmanship that women could plan to keep in their closets beyond a season. For her first collection, she was inspired by the ’90s slip silhouette, which she aimed to perfect. Interested to find more about the brand, I spoke with Heé.
