The Beauty Basics We Use on a Daily Basis

The Beauty Basics We Use on a Daily Basis

As a fashion editor, I, and my fellow Who What Wear editors, talk about wardrobe basics a lot. We’re constantly advising on the tees, jeans, footwear, and more that are versatile enough for everyday wear. But you’re not here to buy T-shirts, right? You’re here to find out which everyday beauty products we Who What Wear editors swear by.

We’re giving you a glimpse into our medicine cabinets (specifically, what’s at the front of our medicine cabinet shelves). Some of these “boring” beauty basics have been in rotation for years, and some are newer discoveries that have become instant favorites of ours. The beauty of these basics (see what I did there?) is that many of them are quite affordable, and if they’re not, you can rest easy in knowing that you’ll use them daily.

Scroll away for the makeup, skincare, and hair products we consider to be beauty basics.… Read the rest

Hollywood Legend Tippi Hedren Takes Our Would You Wear It Now Challenge

Hollywood Legend Tippi Hedren Takes Our Would You Wear It Now Challenge

When an email with a subject line that simply read “Tippi Hedren” popped into my inbox, I audibly shrieked with excitement. An opportunity to work with the Hollywood legend, Hitchcock muse, and mother to Melanie Griffith and grandmother to Dakota Johnson? The answer was obviously a resounding YES! Within a few weeks, we found ourselves at the Shambala Preserve in Acton, California, a nonprofit organization founded by Hedren dedicated to providing sanctuary to exotic felines who have been mistreated or neglected and her longtime residence, to film the next installment of our video series Would You Wear It Now.

Hedren, who many know from her iconic role in the 1963 Alfred Hitchcock horror thriller The Birds, has had an incredible Hollywood career spanning 55 years, and along the way has accumulated a series of timeless looks that could fill an entire guest house. (True story: Most of Hedren’s … Read the rest

21 Things to Buy Immediately From Net-a-Porter's Rare One-Day Beauty Sale

ALERT: Net-a-Porter is having a beauty sale, which is a rare and beautiful thing, but the catch is that it’s only for one day—today, July 23. As I reported a few months ago, Net-a-Porter’s beauty section is chock-full of highly effective luxury products with a cult following, many of which you’ll rarely find marked down anywhere. The discount is for 15% off, and some brand exclusions apply, but I will say that every highly covetable brand I just added to my cart was eligible for the discount.

It’s hard not to be a fan of Net-a-Porter’s epic selection of fashion items, but I urge you not to sleep on this sale. It stocks some of the most covetable brands on the planet, including Charlotte Tilbury, Le Labo, La Mer, Byredo, Dr. Barbara Sturm, and Tom Ford. You know what to do now—scroll to shop the things I highly recommend … Read the rest

Paloma Faith Served Some Serious Fashion at Her First-Ever Comic-Con

Paloma Faith Served Some Serious Fashion at Her First-Ever Comic-Con

Fact: Paloma Faith gives great fashion. Whether she’s serving major looks on stage—the award-winning singer songwriter has delighted crowds in everything from a metallic pleated confection to a jaw-dropping homage to the late Alexander McQueen—or hitting the press circuit at Comic-Con for her new TV series Pennyworth, Faith knows how to deliver a noteworthy fashion moment. “My style is like a take on Audrey Hepburn, kind of prim and a bit lady, but contemporary,” she tells us from her hotel at the San Diego entertainment festival. It was the UK native’s first Comic-Con, and Who What Wear got the exclusive behind-the-scenes look at Faith’s stylish weekend.

With the help of stylist Deborah Afshani, Faith arrived at Comic-Con with plenty of stylish wardrobe options in tow, like the tangerine dream Tory Burch number she wore to the #IMDBboat photocall and a dreamy tiered tulle dress by Louiza Babouryan, to … Read the rest

Billie Eilish Laughs At Your 7 Style "Rules"—And She Dresses Better For It

Billie Eilish Laughs At Your 7 Style "Rules"—And She Dresses Better For It

Billie Eilish knows that it’s way more fun to break the rules than it is to follow them. The 17-year-old breakout singer is turning stereotypes of the sugar-coated pop star on their head by being unabashedly herself, something her next-level style can attest to. If you count yourself as one of her 31 million Instagram followers, you’re familiar with the logo-filled, oversized, OTT outfits she shares in her feed and if not, you’ll be compelled to hit “follow” by the end of this story.

What makes Eilish’s style so next-level is how far she’s willing to commit to a look. Head-to-toe neon green? She’s game. Wearing multiple oversized pieces at once? She doesn’t bat an eye. You see, Eilish pays no mind to all those old-school fashion “rules” or random etiquette you’ve probably been conditioned to follow. While it seems counterintuitive, her outfits are so good because they push … Read the rest

Queen Letizia's $30 Zara Dress Hits on This Year's Biggest "Grandma" Trend

Queen Letizia's $30 Zara Dress Hits on This Year's Biggest "Grandma" Trend

“Grandma” dressing is all over our Instagram feeds right now. From trends like square-toe shoes to top-handle bags, it should come as no surprise when we see some of the coolest women in fashion (and celebs like Jennifer Lopez and Amal Clooney) testing out these retro-inspired looks, but when a royal dips their toe in the trend, well, that’s newsworthy to us. Seeing as the guidelines that dictate royal wardrobes are strict and unwavering, it’s not every day that their fashion choices share some common ground with fashion’s inner circle.

Enter Queen Letizia of Spain, who nailed the biggest grandma trend of the year—tweed—during a recent appearance at the Zarzuela Palace in Madrid. Always one to show off a winning affordable find, she nailed the tweed trend via a navy dress from Zara, which is currently on sale for just $30. To complete her look, she cinched the … Read the rest

All Over Tokyo, Fashion Girls Are Wearing These 5 Things

All Over Tokyo, Fashion Girls Are Wearing These 5 Things

On any given day, you can catch us waxing poetic about the trends we’re spotting in cities like Paris and NYC, but today we’re shifting our focus to another city with a huge fashion scene that hasn’t gotten as much of our attention (until now): Tokyo. It shouldn’t come as a huge surprise that Tokyo would be brimming with incredibly cool and original style. After all, it’s the home to iconic designers such as Comme des Garçons, Issey Miyake, and Yohji Yamamoto.

So in an effort to canvas what style in 2019 looks like at home in the U.S. and in different countries all over the world, we’re highlighting the current trends taking over the Tokyo fashion front right now. Japan is historically known for its experimental and avant-garde aesthetic, and today that translates into a street style scene filled with a mix of both tougher trends like … Read the rest

Sweetbitter's Ella Purnell Tells Us the 5 Pieces British Girls Love for Summer

Sweetbitter's Ella Purnell Tells Us the 5 Pieces British Girls Love for Summer

Before I landed my dream job at Who What Wear nine years ago, I worked as a waitress at a fancy establishment in my hometown, a personal fact I contribute to the immediate kinship I feel with actress Ella Purnell upon speaking with her. To be fair, Purnell is not actually a waitress, though she does play one on the Starz series Sweetbitter, a role that allows us to bond for a full 10 minutes over the “mental” restaurant industry; the long hours, the romantic relationships that inevitably form, and of course, the drama. We LOVE the drama.

My phone call with Purnell takes place days after she wrapped a whirlwind NYC press trip (and this shoot!) for the second season of Sweetbitter, which premiered last Sunday. She is back in her hometown of London working on her next project, the corset drama Belgravia, which is set for … Read the rest
