My 65-Year-Old Mom Knows What's Cool Before I Do—Here's What She's Buying

In case you missed it last time, my mom is really cool—like next-level cool. So cool, in fact, that I feel guilty keeping her all to myself. So now she’s back, and this time she’s sharing her top picks for summer.

But before you scroll through her favorite pieces, let me first tell you a little bit about why she’s such a style icon. My mom does not let her age define her. In fact, as previously mentioned, she dresses way cooler than I do. Despite our 42-year age difference, I would wear anything in my mom’s closet, and most of the time, I’m beyond envious of the things she has that I don’t. There’s a level of effortlessness that my mom has carried with her throughout the years. She doesn’t give in to trends that don’t make sense for her, nor does she wear clothing she’s uncomfortable in. Those two tactics make for a practical and chic style that defines her and has (I’d like to believe) rubbed off on me.

I can’t believe I’m lucky enough to have such a style maven as my own mother. I’ve looked far and wide and have never found someone whose style speaks to me as much as my mom’s does, which is why I called on her to share her top picks for summer with you all. Trust me—you’ll want everything. I know I do!

“I loved this duster so much I wore it the entire trip.”

“I can’t wear really high heels the way I used to, but these mid-height Gianvito Rossi sandals help to give the extra length I’m looking for.”

“There are so many great floral dresses this season, but this one really stands out to me.”

“I’m a huge fan of everything Nili Lotan. I have these in black from last season, and I not only love them, but I’d love to spice up my summer wardrobe with an extra pop of color.”

“Plus, the pants would look great with this hoodie.”

“Emily introduced me to Staud, and I’ve been in love ever since.”

“I never really thought I’d wear white shoes again that aren’t sneakers, but never say never.”

“These days, I find myself in T-shirts as often as possible. A good white tee is hard to come by. At my age, I don’t want anything too tight, low-cut, or cropped, and this tee is the perfect solution.”

“I wear a belt every day. It’s one of my favorite subtle accessories, and this one currently has my eye.”

Just two girls enjoying a day in Central Park and accidentally matching in patterned dusters.

“My love affair with all things leopard continues.”

“When I gave my denim blazer away in the ’90s, I never thought it would be in style again. But here we are in 2019, and I’m going to buy another one!”

“Some days, an effortless, throw-on summer dress is all you need.”

“A great pair of white jeans really makes it feel like summer. It’s hard to find a good pair, so after I found these, I was in heaven.”

“I became a huge fan of Ganni a few seasons ago, and it’s a well-priced and fashion-forward label that speaks to all age groups.”

“I love the idea of a packable straw hat.”

“Lately, I have been loving Zara. There’s so much to choose from it can be overwhelming, but I love finding affordable pieces that look expensive. I particularly love these lightweight pants.”

Up next, Jennifer Aniston has been wearing this dress style for years.
